Challenge:

The concept was to provide an energetic, retro style coffee house with performance area, where students and professors could gather to experience a sense of community. A significant challenge was the schools limited budget.

Process:

Innovative use of common materials with bold color palette and exposed  structural and mechanical systems reduces cost and allowed the budget to support furniture and unique lighting fixtures. Distinctive floor and ceiling treatments accented with lighting defines different activity areas. The design also includes a display gallery and a student arts exhibit space. A fire place was incorporated for  comforting focal point.

Result:

The objectives of both the students and faculty were met. Conversion of the existing cafeteria and chapel into and eclectic cafe and performance area accommodates small intimate groups and medium size live performances.
